Volunteers are the strength of Family Support Services. They help sustain and expand our programs by contributing their time, skills, resources, and dedication to serving children and families in our community.
Want to make a difference? Are you compassionate? Good at listening? Are you looking for a flexible way to make a difference in our community and others' lives? If you answered “Yes,” Family Support Services wants you to be a part of our team!
Volunteer Advocates work directly with victims of sexual assault and family violence. When a sexual assault or family violence victim presents at the NWTH-ER or The Bridge, a Volunteer Advocate is dispatched to provide emotional support for the victim and his/her family members. The Volunteer Advocate stays with the victim throughout the immediate crisis, providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and information about services available. The FSS Volunteer Advocate Program is a Certified Sexual Assault Training Program administered through the Office of Attorney General. The training provides Volunteer Advocates 40 hours of training (10 of those hours are accompanying an experienced Volunteer Advocate). For more information on the Volunteer advocate program- contact Ione Mixon at 806.342.2529 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special Event Volunteers
FSS conducts two special events per year—the Original Harley Party in July and a Mardi Gras Party in February. We welcome volunteers during the events and also with preparations and promotion prior to the events. Shifts during the events are typically 2 hours. For more information on Fundraising & Special Events Assistance – contact Joette Campbell at 806.342.2503 or email@example.com.
At FSS, we are continually working to educate the community about services we provide and about the impact of family violence and sexual assault. All assistance in promoting the agency is welcome, whether it is referring people who need services or suggesting that FSS speak to a community group about the agency. FSS has a wide variety of programs- volunteer opportunities can be customized depending on the volunteer’s area of interest. We would love to show you around the agency and explore the type of support that fits with your interests. For more information on miscellaneous opportunities, including Board & Committee Memberships – contact Shyla Dubois at 806.342.2508 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
